Bayou Segnette Sports Complex Generator Installations
BKI was contracted to design the installation of two emergency standby generators and automatic transfer switches for the Jefferson Parish John A. Alario, Sr. Event Center. The John A. Alario, Sr. Event Center (Bayou Segnette Sports Complex) was a 2,400‐seat multi‐purpose arena in Westwego, LA. This project represented the design of an emergency generator installation to an existing facility.
A 1000 kW generator was installed at the Event Center, and a 500kW generator was installed at the Hall B Expansion Building.
The generators are packaged engine, alternator, sub-base fuel tank, and weatherproof enclosure units. The generator and fuel tanks were installed on pile-supported concrete foundations.
The automatic transfer switch gears were NEMA 3R service-entrance rated equipment, and were installed on elevated access platforms with handrails.
City of Ponchatoula Sewer Lift Station Generators
BKI was awarded the Ponchatoula Sewer Lift Station Generator project as a result of the City of Ponchatoula seeking assistance for engineering services for Gustav/Ike Disaster Recovery CDBG funds under the Municipalities Infrastructure Program, and the subsequent implementation of that program.
This project specifically involved the installation of generators to 10 existing sewerage lift stations.
BKI assisted the City with preliminary engineering, design engineering, and inspections for the generator project in compliance with Disaster Recovery CDBG Program requirements.
BKI was responsible for the detailed design of construction drawings and specifications to support the installation of 10 emergency generators.
This project involved the subcontracting of surveying services, coordination with Atmos Gas for natural gas services to all 10 generator locations, the design of generator foundations, and detailed electrical design.
The scope of work also included the design of automatic transfer switches and all associated conduit, wiring, supports, and all other incidental work required to complete this
City of Gretna Wastewater Treatment Plant New Generator
BKI was contracted by the City of Gretna to design the removal of an existing 450 kW generator along with its underground diesel fuel tank from the Gretna Wastewater Treatment Plant and replace it with a new 800 kW generator and fuel tank.
As the original generator for the Plant, the existing generator was both undersized and unreliable to handle the facilities’ emergency power demands. The new generator was sized to operate all of the emergency operation loads and exceeded the full load ampacity of the existing 1600 amp distribution switchboard.
The existing full tank was removed and replaced with a new 4,000 gallon capacity underground fuel tank.
