BKI was hired by St. Tammany Parish School Board to provide architectural services, schematic design, and construction administration for an addition to an existing middle school. The new 12,300 sf addition also needed to match the other existing five education wings. 

The wing structural system is a pre–designed, rigid frame metal building. The roof is a standing seam metal roof to match the existing school building wings. The exterior wall system is comprised of a brick veneer matching the existing school building over concrete masonry units. The interior partitions are a combination of concrete masonry units and gypsum wallboard over metal studs. The plan of the addition included classrooms, an art room, rest rooms and storage areas. Each classroom is independently air conditioned and is outfitted for computer and audio/visual enhancements for education. 

The addition is oriented such that it is connected to the existing building’s major corridor spine for easy accessibility to the cafeteria, gym, front office and other academic wings.

BKI provided design and construction administration services for modifications to plumbing and mechanical systems for a multi-purpose building that provides facilities for the culinary arts and physical fitness programs at Delgado Community College. 

The hot water generating equipment was expanded with the addition of a 700,000 BTU generating unit and mixing valves to modulate water supply temperatures. This unit provides  high temperature water supply to the culinary arts dishwasher equipment and an additional supply of moderate temperature water to kitchen, showers and lavatory facilities. 

The deteriorated under-slab sanitary sewage collection system was partially replaced and the main sanitary collection line was fully replaced. In addition, an existing under-capacity grease trap located below the slab was abandoned and replaced with an exterior 150-pound unit.

BKI was selected by the St. Bernard Parish School Board to provide complete architectural services for the Sebastien Roy Elementary School. The project included schematic design, design development, contract documents and construction administration services. 

BKI designed renovations and modifications to the existing school to convert the middle school to an elementary school. Existing open-classroom designs were converted to traditional classroom designs.  

BKI also designed upgrades to the HVAC and electrical system as a part of the renovation project.

The project included extensive study and implementation of corrective waterproofing techniques for the existing masonry and concrete structures.

Construction cost was approximately $1.3 million.
