City of Houston Ellington Field Pavement Repairs
BKI was contracted by the City of Houston to provide design and construction administration for the rehabilitation of Runway 17L-35R, the apron area in front of the Airfield Rescue and Fire Fighting station at Ellington Airfield. The project also included the repair/replacement of pavement slabs along Runway 4-22, Taxiways ‘C’, ‘D’ & ‘G.’
The pavement was evaluated to determine whether the slabs needed to be replaced or repaired. There was also some lighting within the limits on the pavement. These light fixtures were relocated if they could not be worked around. The schedule for the construction within these areas was also very critical to the project.
A construction-sequencing schedule was determined in conjunction with the HAS. These schedules included the full demolition of the paved areas where replacement was needed along with the repair/replacement. The construction sequencing also included rerouting aircrafts along alternate taxiways while work was being performed. Buffer areas were maintained in adherence with all FAA requirements. The project also included the replacement of striping that was affected by the construction.
Louis Armstrong International Airport Runway Resident Inspection
BKI was selected by the New Orleans Aviation Board to provide resident inspection services for the drainage improvements associated with Runway 10/28 reconstruction project. This includes inspection of the new replacement concrete box culverts in Canal No. 17 where it crosses Runway 10/28 and numerous storm drain inlets and new subsurface drain culverts adjacent to the runway improvements.
This inspection service was part of the overall inspection team assigned to the total reconstruction of the east/west runway at the New Orleans International Airport. The project was completed on schedule and the entire construction management team received a letter of appreciation from the New Orleans International Airport Director of Aviation.
Shreveport Regional Airport Master Plan Study
BKI selected by the Shreveport Airport Authority to prepare a Site Master Plan for the ExpressJet Base Maintenance Hangar Facility and preparation of construction plans and specifications for the improvements. ExpressJet required the expansion of their existing hangar to provide for fleet maintenance. Proposed projects included the addition of a 19,000 sq. ft. Stores Building, a 30,000 sq. ft. Shops Building, 20,000 sq. ft. Break room/restroom/locker room renovation in their existing hangar, and a new 300 space parking lot. BKI prepared schematic site layouts, programming for project needs, project schedules, estimates of construction costs, and construction plans and specifications.
