Tuscaloosa County Board of Education Eastern Elementary School Site Development
BKI was contracted to design the site for the new elementary school, which was opened in August 2008.
BKI was involved in the initial site location and provided construction plans, specifications, estimates, utility design, site layout, as well as construction administration, and inspection.
BKI designed water and sanitary sewer to serve the project as well as meeting future growth demands of the surrounding area.
The project also involved protection of an existing wetland located on-site and all related permitting required for construction.
The project designed a site plan for a 78,000 square foot building on a 36 acre site. Construction plans included a grading plan, sewer design, water system design, drainage system design and layout, permitting, and coordination with local governments. In addition, BKI provided plans for the entrance road, parking facilities, recreational facilities, and building pad final grades.
St. Tammany Parish School Board Mandeville Middle School Addition
BKI was hired by St. Tammany Parish School Board to provide architectural services, schematic design, and construction administration for an addition to an existing middle school. The new 12,300 sf addition also needed to match the other existing five education wings.
The wing structural system is a pre–designed, rigid frame metal building. The roof is a standing seam metal roof to match the existing school building wings. The exterior wall system is comprised of a brick veneer matching the existing school building over concrete masonry units. The interior partitions are a combination of concrete masonry units and gypsum wallboard over metal studs. The plan of the addition included classrooms, an art room, rest rooms and storage areas. Each classroom is independently air conditioned and is outfitted for computer and audio/visual enhancements for education.
The addition is oriented such that it is connected to the existing building’s major corridor spine for easy accessibility to the cafeteria, gym, front office and other academic wings.
Southern University at New Orleans Master Plan
BKI was part of a team that was asked by Southern University of New Orleans to develop a long-range master plan for their campus. The study covered the 22-acre main campus and the newly acquired 38-acre north campus.
BKI evaluated the existing facilities, determined the needs of the university, and assessed the potential for program expansion. We examined several scenarios for growth and redevelopment by analyzing long-term enrollment trends and parking demands. Multiple schematic campus layouts were presented to the student body, administration, staff, and board of directors for their comments and approval.
BKI provided recommendations for long-term building plans, parking management, transit services, landscaping, architectural styles, demolitions, capital programs, costs and funding.
